I have a cute home decor idea for this month’s “Around the House” blog segment at
PINK PAISLEE
For my off the page challenge this month I was lucky enough to find a very inexpensive
wooden house-shaped frame at Michaels and I knew I wanted to pair it up with some goodies
from the Hey Kid Collection.
To begin, I painted all of the edges of the frame with an acrylic paint from Plaid called Sublime Lime.
Next, I created a template for the inset part of the roof by using a heavyweight sheet of tissue paper.
After cutting out the template, I carefully traced the design onto the blue dot paper from the
Hey Kid 12×12 Paper Pad.
From the same blue dot paper and using the Pink Paislee Cutting File: Sunny Days ,
I cut two of the cloud motifs and sanded around the edges before adding them with foam adhesive.
Two simple pink stars from the Hey Kid ephemera adds a nice contrast and make the clouds
POP even more! For the eaves of the roof-line, I used the scalloped Vellum Borders
and scored each section approximately 1/8″ from the straight edge and then attached
with a strong adhesive tape.
I cut matching strips from the black/cream dot paper (found in the Hey Kid 12X12 Paper Pad)
and covered all of the raised areas of the ‘house’ with it. My vision was to have a Spring-like
garden of flowers at the base of the house, so I left the bottom portion uncovered with
the green paint showing through. I used several paper punches to create the various layered flowers.
Add your favorite buttons for extra charm :)
For the rooms of the house, I lined each section with pink star paper (Hey Kid 12X12 Paper Pad)
and to the inner room, I added one of the sweet Subway Flags. As a finishing touch
(and to hide any gaps), I edged each section and the inset of the roof with baker’s twine.
The colors (with the addition of the lime green) match my daughter’s room perfectly, so I made
this with her in mind :) I glued on medium-sized clothespins above the ‘rooms’ so
that she can clip on different photos as she wishes. A pretty ribbon bow adds a little
softness to the top and completes this whimsical collaged house!
I love 'off-the-page' projects...don't you?!? :)
This turned out incredible Shellye! The colors you used are so pretty and I adore the little house you used! :)
