Hillside Hoop'la
Hello there and a happy Wednesday to you!
I had this really sweet project up yesterday on the blog at
BASIC GREY
This is an inexpensive home décor project featuring the new “Hillside” Collection
and a couple of wooden embroidery hoops that you can find in craft or fabric stores.
For this project I have used a 4” and 6” embroidery hoop. First, I traced the very
outside edge of each of the hoops; this will leave enough excess for tucking the
paper around the inner hoop.
Next, trim out the tracing, leaving about a ¼” border as shown in the photo above.
Using small, micro-tip scissors, snip the paper up to the trace line creating little tabs
in the edge of the paper as you go around the circle.
Fold the paper around the edge of the inner hoop and secure the tabs with a quick
drying glue. Place the outer hoop over the inner hoop. Glue the smaller hoop to the
top, center of the completed 6” hoop. Begin decorating!
I started with three of the wooden ‘stakes’ and adhered them to the center of the 4” hoop. Next I layered on the chipboard letters to spell out “Hi”
The kraft tag was added and the “friends” sticker added to the center of it with
foam adhesive. One of the kraft circles was used for the “I” in “hi”.
I kept the rest of the embellishment simple by adding a single orange chipboard
butterfly with hot pink Candy Dot centers!
I love the the piece can sit as it is on a shelf, propped up with an easel or used to
display as wall-art. Create several of these, large and small, and hang in a fun
grouping in a child’s room or craft area! I hope that you enjoy mixing ‘n matching

I have a few "Juniper Berry" crafts to share with you today
that have been up on the
BASIC GREY BLOG
First up is a really "COOL" snowman home-decor project:
With just a few basic supplies and the “Juniper Berry” Collection, you too can create
this sweetly dis-positioned snowman to count down ‘til Christmas!
-I started with a 12X12 sheet of the “Garland” patterned paper, a 12X12 sheet of
heavyweight chipboard, off-white cardstock, an 11.5” round plate and a 9” round plate.
-I traced the largest plate onto the backside of the patterned paper and then
onto the chipboard and trimmed each of them out.
-Next, the 9” plate was traced onto the off-white cardstock and cut out.
- I used a walnut ink to ink around the edges of both papers and then adhered together.
-The two papers were machine-stitched together with a zig-zag stitch.
- I die-cut two 2.5” circles from the “Reindeer” paper (side B) and machine stitched
them in place for the cheeks.
-Finally, the round chipboard backing was attached to the back.
-For the mouth, I lightly traced a half circle with a pencil and then added large,
black Candy Dots about every ½”.
-The nose measures 1.75”W (at widest point) and 3.5”H and I cut the shape
from a piece of chipboard and the “Monet” paper from the “B Side” Collection.
The two pieces were glued together and then a large, orange brad was
inserted through the top side.
-The “eyelashes” came from the “B Side” ephemera pack.
The dates could be created in a variety of ways, but I chose to die-cut twenty four ¾”
circles and top them with aqua Basics Stickers. After arranging the numbers
and inking around the edges, they were attached with foam adhesive.
The hat was quick and easy to assemble! The top of the hat is a 5X5 piece of chipboard
and the brim is a 2”X10.5” piece of chipboard; both pieces were covered with
“Lump of Coal” paper and adhered together. Foam adhesive tape was used for
attaching the hat to the top of the snowman. I used some fun ephemera pieces
and tags to embellish the hat.
You could also add a hanger with ribbon or twine, but I chose to display mine on an easel.
This would be a great project for older children to help with and they will love counting
down to the big day with this cute guy!

It's almost time for Fall decorating and today
I have this set of pumpkin jars to share at

Create this pumpkin duo with your favorite pieces from the "Pumpkin Spice" Collection,
a couple of recycled glass jars and burnt orange acrylic paint!
Before decorating either jar, a generous amount of burnt orange acrylic paint was
squirted into the bottom. After reattaching the lid (securely), the jar was shaken
and rolled around until the interior was completely coated. Next, I placed the jars
upside down onto a thick mat of newspaper and allowed the excess paint to drip off.
You may need a sponge brush just to touch up some spots if needed.
I also used a heat tool (or hair dryer) to complete the drying process.
The largest pumpkin is a standard Mason jar size. To it, I cut a strip of
"Autumn Splendor" paper to 3.75"X12" and taped it in place around the jar with
high tack adhesive. I used a couple of dies that I had on hand to create a cute tag
for the front. The tag was distressed around the edges with a walnut ink and
then embellished with goodies from Pumpkin Spice.
The second pumpkin is a smaller 2.75"X5" jar. The same paper was cut to 2.5"W
and just enough to wrap around the jar completely. After threaded the chipboard
buttons with jute, they were attached with a glue dot.
The bands of the lids were covered in a strip of the turquoise barn wood paper
from the Simple Basics pack. A wooden spools was inked with walnut ink
and added to the top for the stem.
What an adorable display or gift for the upcoming Autumn season!

Birdie Welcome Hanger
Summer is just around the corner and now is a great time to begin those
home décor projects to help ring in the sunny days ahead. So grab the new
“I Love Sunshine” Collection and let’s get started!
First, I selected the Bird cutting file from the Silhouette Design Store.
The design coordinates with the “I Love Sunshine” Collection. I cut the bird’s body
(cut twice for a front and back) to measure approximately 10”W X 8”H, while
keeping the remaining components to scale. These pieces were cut from
various 6X6 “I Love Sunshine” papers.
This next step is optional, but I wanted the hanger to be as sturdy as possible.
Cut a piece of poly batting (thick felt or chipboard can be used also) just a bit
smaller than the body. The back piece of the body was coated with adhesive
and then the batting was pressed into place.
The outer edge of the bird, the wings, tail feather pieces and belly were all
inked with Versa Magic “Turquoise Gem”. All of the pieces were glued into place,
with the exception of the left wing, sticker banner and chipboard stickers.
The bird front was attached to the top of the batting with a dab of fabric glue
and then machine-stitched around the edge with a straight stitching.
The center of the eyes, banner sticker, beak and left wing were attached with
foam adhesive. The banner sticker’s end was tucked under the wing and
draped across the chest. The chipboard stickers were clustered together
and the centers of the pinwheels were embellished with enamel dots.
A large bow was made from a piece of 1.5” grosgrain ribbon and attached to the top.
One of the chipboard buttons was used as an embellishment for the center of the bow.
Two small holes were punched at the top left and right of the bird’s head.
A piece of heavy gauged wire was strung through to create the hanger.
Add the bird to a wreath or hang alone to great your Summer guests!

A Welcome Basket
Hi there, friends! I'm up today at the
SIMPLE STORIES BLOG
with a sweet "Welcome Baby" basket brimming with paper flowers
and baby's info; such a wonderful keepsake for a new mom!
For this project I have used the "Enchanted Collection"...it's ideal for any of
those little girl projects, even to welcome baby. The wooden box is one that
I found at Michael's and measures approximately 4.25"W X 5.5"H X 2"D. I traced
the front and back of the box onto a piece of the "Rose" Simple Basic paper and
then cut out. Adhesive was applied with the Xyron Creative Station and attached to box.
To the front, one of the printed sides of the 3X4 SN@P! cards was edged in green
ric rac and embellished with a sentiment cloud from the Bits & Pieces pack.
A butterfly was attached to a pixie stick straw and attached with a glue dot.
From the 6X6 paper pad, blooms were punched using the Floriana punch by McGill.
Two blooms were layered together and then attached to a paper straw. Floral
foam was inserted into the box and the flowers arranged in a staggered fashion.
The baby info was printed off using my home printer and then cut into strips and
glued to the straws. Various Bradz, Bits & Pieces and chipboard
stickers were added to the centers of the blooms.
The sides of the box were covered with strips cut from 6X6 paper and satin bows
were glued to the sides.
This would also make an adorable centerpiece for a baby shower or a nursery decoration!

Hello Summer Wreath
My patio door will be all decked out with this colorful Summer
wreath that I made with the "Beach Party" Mini Collection by
ECHO PARK PAPER
Paper wreaths come in all shapes and styles and today I’m sharing my version
of a fun “Hello Summer” wreath that will brighten an entry way or covered door
during the Summer months! I started with a 7” wire wreath base and twelve 12”
strips cut from two patterned papers (total of 24 strips) from the “Beach Party”
Mini Collection. The strips were cut 1” wide.
The strips were folded in half with the center of the fold placed over the inner ring
of the wreath. The top flap of the strip was inserted back through the outer ring
and glued in place to the back flap.
A circle of chipboard and solid red paper were cut to be a bit larger than the center
opening of the wreath. The two pieces were glued together and then attached to
the back of the wreath. A journal card was cut-out and attached to the center
of the circle with foam adhesive.
To add even more fun (and to hide the bottom metal ring), strips of 5/8” grosgrain
ribbon were knotted or tied into bows around the perimeter. Approximately 4 yards
of the navy ribbon was used to make the bows and 2 yards each of the red and
orange ribbon were used to make the knotted pieces.
A large eyelet was set into the top paper strip and a piece of white string was
knotted through for a hanger. Now it's all ready for displaying and greeting guests!

I think it’s pretty safe to say that we’re all ready for Spring,
so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make something fun and “springy”
with the beautiful Prism Collection by
BASIC GREY
I often use chipboard album pages to create things other-than albums.
For this project I have taken a 6″X6″ decorative piece of chipboard and transformed it
into this adorable “Happy Spring” chick wall/door hanging.
First, I traced the shape onto a sheet of the yellow patterned Prism paper and then cut out.
The edges were distressed in a walnut ink. Two 1.5″ circles were punched from a
sheet of pink 6X6 paper and then attached in place of the cheeks.
The beak was made from two 1.5″ squares of orange paper that were glued
together and then folded in half at an angle. Just the bottom portion of the beak
was glued to the center of the cheeks. For the wings, I die-cut a roof shape from
a piece of chipboard and then layered it with a piece of matching yellow paper.
The roof was cut in half and inked around the edges.
Next, all of the pieces were glued to their matching chipboard pieces and assembled.
A banner die was used and the chipboard alphas from the collection were used
to spell out “spring”.
Small holes were punched along the tops of each banner and a piece of white twine
was stitched through so that the banner pieces could hang in a row. To the top, two holes
were also punched and a strand of rustic wire was threaded through to create a hanger.
